Graduate Hospital A Vibrant Cultural Hub

The Graduate Hospital neighborhood is bordered by the Schuylkill River on the west and is known for its walk-able blocks and small community atmosphere. Graduate Hospital offers new buyers a great selection of vintage row homes and new condos in a relaxing part of the city. The neighborhood began to take shape following the Civil War, when its residents were predominantly Irish-American. But in the 1920s an influx of African-American residents added to the culture of this working class community.

Graduate Hospital is named for its close proximity to the Penn Medicine at Rittenhouse Hospital. The community offers quick access to the University of Pennsylvania, making it the preferred place of residence for graduate students. Young residents can also take advantage of public transit systems that connect the neighborhood to Center City for additional dining and shopping.

Not just a town for education, Graduate Hospital is also known for its many historical attractions, including the Marian Anderson House, the Royal Theatre, and the Edwin M. Stanton School. Showcasing its rich culture, the neighborhood hosts the Odunde Festival. Hosted annually, the Odunde Festival is an African street market that attracts over 500,000 attendees and spans 12 blocks. During the festival, visitors can enjoy a variety of arts, crafts, and foods while watching the performances of African and Caribbean entertainers.

When the festivities are over, Graduate Hospital is typically a quiet neighborhood. Residents enjoy a calm community that has no shortage of entertainment options within the community and around the metro Philadelphia area.
